Former welterweight title challenger Luis Santos feels he has nothing to prove

CTT 3686

Luis “Sapo” Santos is one of the most successful fighters on the ONE roster with a fight record of 61 wins and just 9 losses.

However, after making a sensational debut with a TKO of Bakhtiyar Abbasov at ONE: BATTLE OF LIONS in Singapore, came two failed title fights against current ONE welterweight world champion Ben Askren.

The first was an accidental eye poke by the champion leading to a No Contest, while Santos failed to make weight for the second.

Despite all the resulting criticism against him though, Santos believes he just needs to win to get back into the fans’ good graces.

In an interview with Fox presenter and ONE Championship’s lead commentator Steve Dawson, Santos said: “A fighter with the numbers that I have does not need to prove anything.”

“The only thing that I’m focused on is to keeping fighting well for the fans of ONE. There are good fighters in ONE Championship and I want to fight the best. But I will simply go from fight to fight, always with the goal of beating my next opponent.”

Santos faces seasoned veteran Rafael “The Machine” Silva in the main event of ONE: TRIBE OF WARRIORS on 20 Feb in Jakarta’s Istora Senayan.
