M-1′s president Vadim Finkelchtein talks the questionable decision in the main event of M-1 Challenge 64.
“As I said it multiple times in the past, neither me, nor anyone else
in M-1 Global has anything to do with the judges. I never even talk to
them during any events. Russian MMA Union is responsible for the
judging process at our events. The Union provides the judges, the
Union created the rule set and the regulations.
The fight itself was crazy. Two of the best middleweight athletes
clashed with each other. The fight didn’t just justify our decision to
arrange it, I’m sure it surpassed any fan’s expectations. We are so
grateful to Shlemenko and Vasilevsky for delivering this early fight
of the year candidate and undoubtedly one of the best fights in the
Russian MMA history.
Judges had to make an extremely tough decision that night.
If you ask me, I’d say it was a draw. Or I’d have given them an extra
round that would have probably settled the score once and for all. But
that’s my vision as one of a spectator.
I understand why Vyacheslav is so upset about the outcome as it was a
razor thin decision. We are ready to make a rematch between the two
once the middleweight Grand Prix is over.”
