FOX SPORTS: Folayang returns with emphatic victory

Folayang (14-5-0) returned to action Friday night, January 29 at ONE: CLASH OF HEROES in Kuala Lumpur and delivered with  a unanimous decision over Japanese opponent Tetsuya Yamada (15-3-2).

The 32-year old Folayang has long been considered one of the most experienced Filipino mixed martial artists, and he proved it tonight against a solid opponent in Yamada.

Folayang showcased Team Lakay’s famous Wushu base by dominating Yamada over three rounds.

The Filipino completely shut down Yamada, keeping the Japanese fighter at the long end of his straight right hand and occasional spinning back kick.

Folayang also landed various flush shots and stuffed numerous takedowns to earn the victory.

Nastyukhin brutally stopped Folayang by way of a flying knee and technical ground kicks over a year ago, and many observers thought he would not be able to return to form. But Folayang looked every bit as good as he was prior to the devastating loss and proved that much is left in his tank.

Folayang said his goal in ONE Championship still remains to become the Lightweight World Champion.

His victory tonight pushed much closer to a title shot against reigning champ Shinya Aoki.
